CutRuler is a free background remover that runs entirely in your browser. It has two modes:
- Photo (AI) uses the open-source ORMBG model (Apache-2.0 licence, converted to ONNX by the onnx-community project) through Transformers.js to separate people, pets and products from their background.
- Signature, logo or stamp uses a simple colour method: it detects the plain background colour from the edges of the image and makes it transparent, keeping soft ink edges. It is faster and more precise than AI for flat artwork on paper.
How it works. The first time you use the AI mode, your browser downloads the model (about 44 MB) from this site and a code library from jsDelivr. They are cached for later visits. Your images are processed on your own device.
Honest limits. Fine hair, fur, glass, smoke and objects that are a similar colour to the background are hard for every background remover, including this one. Very large photos are scaled to 4,000 pixels on the longest side.
